What is a Newel Cap?

An acorn newel cap sits on a newel post as a decorative finish to your staircase. Newel posts are posts that are usually placed at the top and bottom of a flight of stairs. Newel posts are a structural part of the staircase and are used to support the bannister. Newel caps are completely optional and are not required for the structural benefit of the stairs.

Caps come in a variety of different designs, finishes and materials. Choose between a flat cap, pyramid caps, ball caps, acorn caps and more! We sell these in oak, pine or white painted.

Our Acorn Cap

Acorn Newel Half Caps are used to finish off the top of your new newel posts. Turned caps are an ideal way to finish turned newels although the caps can be used for a range of decorative purposes.

This is an acorn style newel cap. The cap is available in a half version which is used on top of a half newel post used where the balustrading ends against a wall.

Timbers

The oak caps are made from American white oak and will appear lighter in colour before they are treated. Our lacquered oak caps are fully treated and are ready for fitting. Please note, the images are of unfinished caps, these are finished in a clear lacquer so may be a slightly warmer colour, and also shinier than in the picture.

The pine for the newel caps is sourced from New Zealand. White painted newel caps are made from Poplar and then coated with a white primer.

The dimensions are 78 x 36.5 x 145mm

We do not currently have a bespoke service for our stair parts. Our caps are sold at standard sizes, and once they’re gone, they’re gone! We have sold the remaining full cap version of the acorn cap, so just have the half caps left currently.

If you want a perfect unblemished and unmarked product, do not buy this item. Please note that we do not offer refunds on these items for obvious reasons.  Please be aware of this when purchasing.

If you choose to order these acorn newel caps, we keep them in stock and will despatch them immediately. We will use Royal Mail to deliver your item on a 1-2 day service. For further information please feel free to contact us.

If ordering with a newel post or another large item, we will send both items together with a haulier. With large item couriers, we will call you to arrange a delivery date that suits yourself before we dispatch from our warehouse.
