Flooring Samples: Flooring Details
Solid Oak Flooring
Our solid oak flooring is manufactured by us in our Sheffield site. It is sold by the m2 and each board is tongue and groove on the 2 longer sides. The timber itself is european white oak and is specially kiln dried to a low moisture content before it even reaches us. Choose between boards of 139mm or 168mm wide, boards are random lengths between 1.2-2.4m.
Installation
Solid oak flooring can be installed in 1 of 2 ways – this can be secret nailed to joists or glued to your subfloor. The glue and screws are available to purchase on our website, check out our floor accessories for more information. An expansion gap of 15mm must be left around the perimeter of the floor to allow the timber to naturally expand and contract, without causing damage to your walls.
Engineered Oak Flooring
We source our engineered flooring from Lionvest. Engineered flooring is manufactured with several layers of timber that is bonded together. Each layer is arranged in the opposite direction to the last layer in order to creature a strong, stable board. Engineered flooring is perfect for those with underfloor heating, as the cross laminated structure allows the flooring to keep a stronger resistance to the natural expanding of timber.
Installation
Engineered flooring can be installed as a floating floor over underlay, or can be glued to the subfloor. Each flooring option has a ‘Wear Layer’ -this is the amount of oak that is present on each board. For example, a 15mm thick floor has a 4mm wear layer.
Flooring Samples: Why choose oak flooring?
Oak flooring brings a warmth and character that is unrivalled into your home. As well as creating a superb setting for your room it can also be a very practical choice. If left, oak flooring will age to a natural patina, gathering history along the way, or if you prefer you can sand it back and refinish it numerous times for a clean fresh look.
