The oak bracing pack includes:
2 x 1.1m lengths which are 150mm wide x 20mm thick
1 x oak lock block with is 250 x 150mm x 20mm thick
They are supplied loose so the oak bracing pack can be installed to the preferred way in the property or if a couple of doors are order in which a preferred installation direction is required. Similarly because they prefer to choose which way to have their bracing fitted on site.
The bracing pack works together with most of our oak ledged doors.
Some customers feel the bracing packs give a more rustic/aged feel to the doors which is why they choose to install the pack. There is no structural reason why you would need to install this product.
Lock blocks are generally used in connection with door handles – for instance the suffolk latch which is sold in the beeswax sets work perfectly in connection with them.
The use of an oak lock block prevents you having to cut into an architrave set and/or door frame. Some would just prefer the look of a lock block. The block gives you the 40mm thickness on an otherwise 20mm thick door, doing this means your latch protrudes from the door less than it would without a lock block.
Bracing packs are manufactured from using European oak which is mainly sourced from France. The timber used is a rustic grade oak meaning that knots/splits, cracks & colour variation can be present within the boards. Depending on the grade of door you buy, we will do our best to match the bracing pack up with the door. All of our oak is kiln dried to a low moisture content before it arrives with us in the UK, this is to remove anything live that may be present in the timber. It also ensures the timber is dry enough for use in the home.
The advise that we give is to glue and pin the 2 lengths of bracing and the oak lock block. We have attached some installation instructions to help you out if needed. The lengths will first need cutting to size and angled, and can then be secured to the door in the pattern of your choice. The bracing orientation can depend on which side your door is hinged from – for example, if you door is hinged on the right, people tend to have their braces going top left to bottom right.
To view the doors that these doors work in connection with, see our oak ledged doors.
