Description
Our solid oak flooring is made in our UK factory, from long lengths of European timber. This makes is unlike the commonly available packs of flooring imported from the Far East which will contain large amounts of small lengths down to 300mm long. Long length oak flooring makes for a much more visually attractive floor, and avoids the mass produced look of imported flooring.
Solid Oak Flooring Sizing
- Manufactured from long lengths boards. Average approximately 2m
- 20mm Thick
- Sold by the m2
- 139mm or 165mm face widths (+8mm tongue)
Flooring Specification
Our flooring is supplied in a select rustic grade and is tongue and grooved on the 2 longer sides.
- 8mm Tongue and Groove on the long sides of the boards
We machine the boards from a European specification QF2/3x grade oak. This is a mid grade oak designed to show a rustic appearance. We do not fill any small cracks or knots as this leaves the boards showing good character, although you can fill some of these during installation if you prefer the appearance.
Each board will be different and unique. There will be large clear lengths and in other areas you can find some of the following characteristics.
- Unfilled Knots (common, these will be in every board)
- Break Out (less common, usually on the occasional board, can appear around knots, and show as a slightly rougher patch, leave as is or you can add a little extra sanding)
- Rough Patches, (less common, leave as is or you can add a little extra sanding)
- Unfilled Superficial cracks, shakes and non structural splits (common, these will be in most boards. We recommend leaving them as they add character, but you can fill if you prefer)
- Grub Worm Holes, (not common, in the occasional board. Leave as is or you can add fill. Note, these are from the tree when it is live, all our boards are kiln dried, they have no live insects)
- Sapwood (common, this will be in a good few boards, will show as colour variation, its the younger parts of the tree. Will darken and even out over time)
Fitting
We recommend using screws to fit directly onto joists, in this instance the lengths should be trimmed so that the joint falls over a joist. Alternatively, you can use adhesive for fitting to an existing timber/sheet material subfloor. An expansion must be left around the perimeter of the room, we recommend using scotia beading to cover this.
