Description

These FLR doors look superb when installed.

Doors are manufactured in a select grade of oak. Most boards will be clear, with the occasional small knot emphasising the solid oak construction of these doors. All of our Oak is specially kiln dried to 8-10% for use indoors.

We laminate 2 solid sections of oak for the frames, which are then hydraulically press assembled on state of the art machinery to ensure a strong long lasting door, with good stability provided by the 2 part laminated frame.

The framed & ledged doors are available in either a bead & butt option or a V Grooved profile.

You can add different options to your door, like a glass opening or a bracing pack. You can even have your door in a stable option if you prefer. Please see the options tab for more information

All our internal mortice & tenon door’s are handcrafted to each order. The typical lead time is around 3-4 weeks.

Timber Grades

We manufacture Framed Ledged Doors using a specially selected grade of oak. The oak is bought directly from a number of partner sawmill in central and northern France where the best quality slower grown oak is found.

Most boards will be clear, some may have the occasional small knot emphasising the solid oak construction of these doors. There can be some colour variation within the boards as you find in any natural raw material.

All of our Oak is specially kiln dried to 8-10% for use indoors and will exhibit minimum movement in use. As with all timber its important to thoroughly finished the doors as soon as they are installed to prevent rapid moisture content changes.

Standard and Custom Sizes

The FLR oak doors are available in the following sizes: -

2'0'' x 6'6''

2'3'' x 6'6''

2'6'' x 6'6''

2'9'' x 6'6'' We also make these oak doors in custom sizes should you require this service. Once you have select either oversized or undersized on the drop down option, you can give us the sizes you require in the basket. Please note that custom doors will take around a week to manufacture. For doors over 2'9 x 6'6 (838mm x 1981mm) in EITHER dimension, please select "custom oversize", for doors under both these dimensions please select "custom undersize.

All the doors are made to a standard 40mm thickness. The frames are laminated from two 20mm sections. We complete this lamination process in house so that we have total control of quality. Laminating the frames in this way, whilst time consuming, creates a much stronger door that is much more resistant to warping. The central boards are pinned in place and are 20mm thick tongue and grooved for exceptional strength

Options

Bracing Pack

You can order the door with the optional bracing pack, which allows you to convert the door to a ledged and braced format. Braces are the diagonal pieces of timber, which were fitted in the past to provide extra support to the doors. With modern construction methods, these are not now structurally required but some customers prefer the look.

The pack can be supplied as loose braces to be fitted on site or we can fit the braces for you. If you would like us to install your brace pack, we will automatically fit the braces 'right Side of brace to top' unless you tell us otherwise. If you do wish for us to install your braces a different way please state this in the order basket.

Door Profile

We can supply your new FLB doors in two inner board profiles, V Grooved or Bead & Butt. There is no price difference for this choice.

V Grooved doors tend to give a subtle and clean look to the door and work particularly well in period cottages or barn conversions. Bead & Butt profile adds some extra detail and would often have been used in larger properties reflecting the additional work that would have gone into making them at that time.

Finishing

We can also pre-finish your door for you if you prefer. If you select this option, we will hand apply the finish of your choice from our wide range. All of our finishes use a hardwax oil top coat, which creates a wonderful subtle finish to the oak whilst protecting the timber. We can finish your new Framed Ledged door in a Traditional Clear hardwax oil or you can choose from one of our Shades finish or Aged oak finishes.

Please note that a prefinished door is considered a customised door and cannot be returned. If you are unsure about the finish you prefer then we recommend ordering a sample or ordering your door unfinished for on site finishing.

Traditional Clear

If you select this option we will prefinish your new door in a clear hardwax satin oil. These modern finishes are manufactured using a mixture of natural oils and waxes and help to bring out the natural beauty of the oak

Shades Finishing

The Heritage shades range uses the latest finishes and techniques to create a variety of colours and styles to suit every home. Shades takes the natural beauty and variation of oak and tailors it to a number of highly individual styles so that there is a choice that will match whatever decor and look you are creating with your home project.

Aged Finishing

The Heritage Aged range use special stains that react with the tannins, this process can be prompted to happen straight away. We combine these reactive stains in a multi stage finishing process with various coloruing and highlighting effects before adding a top coat of hardwax oil and the results are truly stunning.
