Description
We supply the Bi fold oak ledged door in two equal halves. We offer an antique beeswax hardware pack containing small joining hinges, as well as shortened versions of our heavy-duty strap hinges. These will fit onto the master leaf.
The Oak Bi-Fold door is available in a Select Rustic or Prime option. We make these beautiful oak doors by gluing and pinning the ledges, followed by hydraulically pressing them. However, we do not manufacture these doors in our plain rustic. Heritage use French oak for doors, as we have found it a much more stable timber than other types of oak commonly used.
The door is available to be purchased with either a Bead & Butt or V Grooved profile. Bead & Butt profile adds some extra detail and would often have been used in larger properties. This reflects the additional work that would have gone into making them at that time. V Grooved doors tend to give a subtle and clean look to the door. These work particularly well in period cottages or barn conversions.
With modern machining techniques, we can produce either board within the same time, so we do not charge a premium for either profile. We prefer this as it leaves you free to choose which board you feel best suits your project.
Timber Grades
Select Rustic Grade Oak
Select rustic ledged doors take all the great features of our rustic ledged doors doors but significantly upgrade the timber used. These are by far the most popular doors as they offer a great balance with enough knots and features to create a rustic cottage feel but without the large features found in our rustic doors. Where we find a knot that shows daylight, we will use filler, but this is generally a small area only.
Prime Grade Oak
With the prime grade, we take this one step further. Prime timber is carefully selected out to create a much cleaner looking door, which works well in a contemporary setting. We look for timber which has minimal knots which allows the visual focus to be on the grain pattern.
Prime oak ledged doors also work wonderfully well with some of our wide range of finishes.
