The Abbey oak ledged door is a striking door due to the handcrafted scalloped ledges. This makes the product different to our many others! We handcraft each one individually (no mass production). Consequently, you are given an authentic period feel which is ideal in any cottage. We can guarantee these doors are worth the wait! See examples of our happy customers here!
Abbey Door Grades & Profiles
You can choose to have the Abbey door in a Prime or a Select Rustic Grade. We do not manufacture the Abbey door in the full rustic grade.
The door is available to be purchased with either a Bead & Butt or V Grooved profile. Bead & Butt profile adds some extra detail and would often have been used in larger properties reflecting the additional work that would have gone into making them at that time. V Grooved doors tend to give a subtle and clean look to the door and work particularly well in period cottages or barn conversions. With modern machining techniques, we can produce either board within the same time, so we do not charge a premium for either profile. We prefer this as it leaves you free to choose which board you feel best suits your project.

We make these stylish oak doors by gluing and pinning the ledges before then hydraulically pressing them for a long-lasting door. We make these at our factory in Sheffield. Our expert joiners can make this unique door to any size you require.
Select Rustic Grade Oak
Select rustic ledged doors take all the great features of our rustic ledged doors doors but significantly upgrade the timber used. These are by far the most popular doors as they offer a great balance with enough knots and features to create a rustic cottage feel but without the large features found in our rustic doors. Where we find a knot that shows daylight, we will use filler, but this is generally a small area only.
Prime Grade Oak
With the prime grade, we take this one step further. Prime timber is carefully selected out to create a much cleaner looking door, which works well in a contemporary setting. We look for timber which has minimal knots which allows the visual focus to be on the grain pattern.
Prime oak ledged doors also work wonderfully well with some of our wide range of finishes.

We can also pre-finish your door for you if you prefer. If you select this option, we will apply the finish of your choice from our wide range. All of our finishes use a hardwax oil top coat, which creates a wonderful subtle finish to the oak whilst protecting the timber. We can finish your new Ledged door in a Traditional Clear hardwax oil or you can choose from one of our colour tones.
Please note that a prefinished door is considered a customised door and cannot be returned. If you are unsure about the finish you prefer then we recommend ordering a sample or ordering your door unfinished for on-site finishing. Please note - to fit into our spray facility, the door is hung onto an overhead track meaning the door will contain two small screw holes on the side of the door.
