Introducing our brand new Oak Mexicano Custom Sized Engineered Door service. This door is also often referred to as a Suffolk door.
Heritage is the only company in the UK manufacturing custom sized engineered oak doors.
Until now all engineered oak doors have been manufactured in the far east and therefore if you needed a custom size then these had to be ordered especially. They take a minimum of 14-16 weeks to arrive, and regularly much longer. We hear of these orders arriving with issues such as wrong sizes , with any replacement another 16 weeks away!
Heritage has built a CNC production facility in Sheffield especially to manufacture popular engineered door styles in custom sizes in the UK. This means that we can offer these doors in 1-2 weeks, and you know you are dealing direct with a UK manufacturer. We do not buy standard doors and modify them. Every door is made from scratch.
We also have a superb in house factory finishing facility. If you choose to have your door prefinished we will spray apply the colour of your choice, with each door sanded and infrared cured between each coat. The resulting finish is far superior to what is possible to achieve with a brush applied coating and is well worth considering.
Oak Mexicano Custom Door Sizing
We aim to keep our service offer simple yet effective, therefore these doors are offered in 2 size brackets with a fixed price. This way you do not have to wait for a quote, simply order your door in the correct size bracket then let us know the exact size you need:
Any size up to 910mm wide x 2130mm high
Any size up to 1160mm wide x 2150mm high
Please be aware we cannot make these doors any smaller than 350mm wide, if you require a narrower door then our Base Mexicano can be made to any size

Oak Mexicano Custom Door Construction
Our Oak Mexicano Custom doors are supplied at a standard 35mm thick. The doors are made as an engineered door with a white oak veneer over a hardwood core.
This door is manufactured with separate stiles and rails, each having twin 16mm dowels to each joint for strength. The door has the classic grooves routed into a central slab which is cross-laminated to ensure the door remains resistant to bowing.
These details are similar to the standard far eastern manufactured door, although you won’t find chipboard in the centre of our doors as you would with far eastern doors.
How close are these to standard Mexicanos that I can buy from any outlet?
There are probably 15-20 versions of standard Mexicanos imported and on sale in the UK, each with slight variations in design and sold under different names such as Suffolk or Cottage. The most obvious design difference between these doors is in the width of the stiles and rails. Bottom rails for example range from 130mm to 200mm wide.
For no extra cost, we can vary the construction of your door to help match into existing doors. You can specify any width stile (the vertical sides of the door) between 100-130mm and any width bottom rail from 100-200mm. We can make your top rail anywhere between 100-130mm. (Please note the maximum sizes in each price bracket assume you use the maximum widths to the stiles and rails. For example a 910mm wide door would need us to use 130mm wide stiles to drop into the lower price bracket. Please call if you need further information on this)
The grooves on our Mexicanos are based on the better quality doors in the market which tend to have deeper and slightly wider grooves. Each groove is 10mm wide x 8mm deep and cannot be adjusted.
For standard size doors it makes sense to use imported mass produced doors as these are cheaper, using custom sized doors for occasions where a standard door just won’t fit. We can advise which standard doors are an exact match to our custom doors and can also supply these doors as part of a larger order.
Why is this door a ‘Deluxe’ door?
We offer custom sized Mexicanos in 2 styles. This door is a little more expensive than our base Mexicano as they are manufactured to be an exact replica of a standard Mexicano. These doors are traditionally made with separate rails and stiles with a central grooved panel. We also offer a Base Mexicano for those looking for a better price which is made from a single slab.
Check out our prefitted hardware range from Carlisle Brass! Here at Heritage, your hinges and latch will be prefitted to the door before dispatch, saving you lots of time and effort on site. Your handle will be shipped loose for safety in transit. As standard, the latch will be fitted 990mm up from the bottom of the door. Lead Times & Order Process
Your custom engineered Mexicano doors are made in Sheffield. We offer a 2 week lead-time, although in many cases we will supply them sooner. When you order, add your desired width and height in the notes box. We’ll process your door through our CNC design software, and you will receive by email a dimension drawing for you to check and approve. Once you approve the measurements, we’ll move your door into production. Once ready, we’ll call you to organise a suitable delivery date.
Custom engineered Mexicanos ordered from the far east are broadly similar to the prices we charge but take 16 weeks. Sizes are often lost in translation and shipping damage is common. These doors turn up wrong so regularly that many door companies refuse to even sell them. Buying your custom doors from Heritage means that you get them quickly. You are using a UK company so any issues that do occur such as shipping damage can be resolved.
Standard & Custom Sizes
- Any size up to 910 x 2130mm
- Any size up to 1160 x 2150mm
Please enter your size in the ‘notes’ box at checkout. Where you need standard sized doors it makes sense to buy the imported doors. We can offer these doors alongside our custom Mexicanos.
